Shirley J. Miller (Keiser)

Shirley J. (Keiser) Miller, 95, of Reading, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 in Country Meadows. Born in 1927 to the late Paul R. And Ethel I. (Grund) Keiser of West Lawn, Shirley Miller was graduated with honors from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1945. For a number of years she worked for Travelers Insurance Company on Penn Square, Reading, and in later years, having raised a family, worked in the cafeteria of Mount Penn Elementary School.

In 1949 she was married to Joseph L. Miller, who died in 1997. Joseph was retired Traffic Manager at Birdsboro Steel Corp. They resided for over 60 years at 310 Friedensburg Road, Mount Penn. Her last residence was at Country Meadows, Wyomissing.

A dedicated homemaker, she was the devoted mother of sons Thomas P., J. Randall (wife Jean), and David L. (wife Christine), and daughter Jane Crosby. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 11 (12?) great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and son-in-law D. Gary Crosby. Shirley was predeceased by her sister Lois Lechner.

Shirley was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church, Mount Penn, where she taught Sunday school and was for many years head of the Altar Guild. She also supported many charities and had a particular interest in the welfare of American Indians and military veterans.

A service will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 11:00 am in Faith Lutheran Church, 210 N 25th Street Reading, PA 19606. Interment will be private. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
