John V. Mintz, 75, of Lower Alsace Township, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Castor) Mintz, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. Born in Fort Riley, Kansas, he was the son of the late Adam and Grace (Orlandino) Mintz. John graduated from high school in Bitburg, Germany in 1965, then went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from Alvernia University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he served as a military police officer as well as an active tour of combat in Vietnam from 1968-1969. John ended his military career in the reserves, having earned the rank of First Sergeant and Tank Commander. After his service in the Army, John was Chief of Police of Brecknock Township for many years until his retirement in 2011.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son John A. Mintz, Flying Hills; his daughter Rachael L. Mintz, Antietam; and his sister Joan Mintz, Shillington.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am with services beginning at 10:30 am in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue Reading, PA 19606. Interment will be held privately at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pets for Patriots, 218 E Park Avenue, Suite 543, Long Beach, NY 11561.
