Mrs. Norma Orth, age 90, of Alton, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the Hillcrest Health Center in Hawarden.
Norma J. was born on January 20, 1932, in Reading, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Herbert and Anna (Kriegelstein) Feyl. She was raised in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from high school and worked at the Berkshire Hosiery Mill.
On June 17, 1950, she married Richard E. Orth in Berks County Pennsylvania. They made their home in Reading, where Norma owned Ray’s Delivery Service. Richard passed away on December 27, 1998, in Reading, after more than 48 years of marriage.
Norma moved to Alton, Iowa, with her granddaughter. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and embroidery.
Survivors include her son, Brian Orth, of Bunnell, Florida; a son-in-law, Charles M.G. Bates, of Ida Grove; two daughters-in-law, Cindy Sweigart and Donna Yoder; five grandchildren, Dawn Bates; Charles Bates, Jr.; Brian Orth, Jr.; Vincent Orth; and Roger Stief; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Marie Sweigart, of Stevens, Pennsylvania. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Melody Bates; and a sister, Judith Ann Bewley.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am at Lutz Funeral Home, 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading 19606.
