Sharon Weiss Parker, 57, of Mount Penn, passed away on April 19, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital.
She was the wife of Robert (Chuck) Parker for 15 wonderful years. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Patricia (Wink) Weiss. Sharon graduated from Governor Mifflin in 1977 and Temple University in 1981 with a B.S. in Communications.
Her working career was spent in both the business and the non-profit world. Sharon’s most treasured achievement was founding and acting as Executive Director of the Berks Coalition to End Homelessness, to which she devoted the last ten years of her life.
An active member of Saint Mary’s Church in Reading, Sharon sang in both the choir and as a cantor, organized rummage sales, and enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow parishioners. She was especially grateful to Father Leo for his role in her conversion to Catholicism.
Sharon loved pets, especially dogs and cats and made friends with the animals wherever she went. She is survived by her cat, Chester. Sharon also enjoyed travelling to Europe and across the USA. She had a special fondness for Ocean City, NJ.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, is one brother, Douglas J. Weiss, husband of Nadine, Shillington. She also has one sister, Sandra L., wife of Stanley Szczepanek, Pike Township. Also surviving are one niece and three nephews: Nicole, Danny, Jordan, and Zach. She recently welcomed a grand nephew, Ashwin.
Sharon also inherited another family from Chuck – step-daughter Jennifer L., wife of Andrew Scott and step-son Christopher J., husband of Cherish. There are six step-grandchildren.
Sharon was predeceased by one sister, Deborah Bright.
