Virgina A. Pawlik, 80, of Reading passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday February 14, 2018 at the Reading Hospital, West Reading. Jean, Jeanie or Ginny fondly known by her many friends and family was born to Genevieve (Brdak) and Alfred J. Kerber of Reading. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, attended the former Central Catholic High School and was a postulant in New Jersey until returning to Reading in 1953.
Jean is survived by her loving husband, Warren J Pawlik of 62 years. Together they have three sons; James C. of Spring Township, Steven M. husband to Jane (Wolf) of Mt Penn, and David B. husband to Elizabeth (Lacey) of Exeter Township. Five grandchildren; Dayna; wife to Justin Balla, Dakota, Matthew, Erin and Michael Pawlik and one great grandchild, Berkleigh.
Jean was employed by Bell Telephone Company for over 30 years until her retirement in 1997. During her tenure at Bell Telephone she took several years off to raise her three boys. She obtained her Barber’s License and worked at a Barber Shop on 4th Street in Reading. After returning to Bell Telephone she continued to cut her family’s hair. Jean was a longtime member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers and Polkateers Pals.
In their spare time, Jean and Sonny enjoyed polka and country line dancing, playing the lottery and bowling for many years at Paradise Bowling, Bowl-O-Rama and Hiester Lanes. Jean was devoted to her family and always put their needs ahead of her own. She will fondly be remembered by all who knew her for her quick wit, selflessness and “Ginny’s Gourmet Pretzels for which she shared with family, friends and neighbors.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 222 South 12th Street, Reading. A viewing for family and friends from 10am to 11am, followed by Mass. Interment will be in the St. George Chapel at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Rd, Reading for family.
