William J. Pfleger, Sr., 95, of St. Lawrence, passed away Tuesday, August 25th, 2015 in his residence. He was the widower of Myrtle M. (Folk) Pfleger with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Raymond and Neda (Schnable) Pfleger. Pop was a graduate of Reading High School in 1938 and was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army-82nd Airborne Division, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Pop was a member of several democratic clubs and was the past president of the Roosevelt Democratic Association. Pop was a member of the Reading Liederkranz. He was especially proud when his great-grandson, Jason W. Pfleger, performed with the GTV Edelweiss Schuhplatters Dance Group. Pop loved the meals prepared by Chef Marlis Pritz, and the music of Kermit Ohlinger, and of course the fellowship. Pop filled the house with music and laughter. A long time Frank Sinatra fan, Pop became good pals with Tony Sands, never missing a show when Tony was in town. Pop retired from Pantry Pride after 40 years of service. Pop is survived by: One Daughter: Donna E. wife of Barrie C. Kinsey with whom he resided; One Son: William J. Pfleger, Jr. of Reading; Daughter-In-Law: Diana Pfleger of Shillington; Two Grandsons: Thomas A. Pfleger of Boothwyn, PA and Jason W. Kinsey of Reading; Five Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sisters: Fern wife of Irving Rothenberger, Ruth wife of Woodrow Schwenk, Mae wife of Charles Metz and Jane wife of William Wagner. At Pop's request, there will be no services. Please no flowers. Pop would love if you take your family out for a good meal. He would suggest the Reading Liederkranz, hoist a cold beer and toast Pop.
