Kenneth L. Reider Sr., 89, of Reading, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Mae (Hussnatter) Reider. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Edward and Edna (Templin) Reider.
Ken was a proud member of The United States Navy, serving as an Engineman Second Class aboard the submarine tender USS Bushnell. For most of his career he worked for Grumman Aerospace on Long Island, New York as a carpenter in the shipping department. He was an expert at preparing critical US Navy aircraft parts and delicate electronics for shipment to other assembly locations and directly out to Fleet ships. His most proud and memorable tasks were preparing the Grumman-built Apollo Program Lunar Landers and Space Shuttle wing sets for shipment. He retired in 1990 and moved back to Reading with Mae to enjoy their retirement years.
Ken is survived by his sister Eileen A., wife of Russell Miller, Mohnton; children Kenneth L. Jr. husband of Jill; Reading, Susan C. wife of Michael Wade; Ijamsville, MD, Thomas A. husband of Julie; Leonardtown, MD. He has four grandchildren Katherine, Gregory, Matthew, and Jessica. Ken is predeceased by his siblings Alma M. Conrad, Alfred L., Jacob G., Edward Reed, Donald E., Russell T., Charles B., Winfield D., and Mitchell E. Reider.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc.. Interment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church 210 N 25th St, Reading, PA 19606.
