Edith Gene (Barr) Rochelle, 96, of Reading, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022, in Berkshire Commons. She was the wife of the late Robert (Bob) Edwin Rochelle. Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Alice (Brubaker) Barr. Gene was a 1943 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. She was employed as a stenographer for 6 1/2 years at the Nava Supply Depot, where she met Bob, the love of her life. They were married on August 14, 1948 for 66 years. She was a member of Schwarzwald U.C.C. and participated in annual turkey dinners, the Easter egg project, and Women's Guild.
Gene loved gardening and feeding the birds. Her Christmas sand tarts and strawberrioca are Rochelle traditions. Together she and Bob enjoyed camping and hiking adventures and traveling, especially to Elder hostel programs and Maine.
In 2016 Gene went to Berkshire Commons for respite care and decided to make that her new home. The staff became her other family and provided so much more than personal care. When additional support was needed, Caring Hospice provided compassionate comfort care.
Gene is survived by a sister, Peggy Miller, of Newville, PA, her daughter Renee R. Weer, wife of Greg, of Lewes, DE, and her son, Robert E. Rochelle, husband of Amy, of South Lyon, MI. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Alison Houck Andrew (Tim), Emily Weer, Eric Rochelle (Ashley), and Ryan Rochelle. As well as two great-grandsons, Eddie Houck and Caiden Rochelle.
