Dora Mae Rothwell 1937 – 2014
Dora Mae Rothwell passed away peacefully on April 18th 2014 at Saint Alphonsis Medical Center in Boise, ID. Dora was born on January 4th 1937 in Prosser Washington to Curtis William Bain and Lillian Mae Bain (Armacost). Dora attended high school in Kennewick, WA and enlisted in the US Army in 1955 where she was deployed to Okinawa as a communications specialist. She met her husband John E (Jack) Rothwell while in the service and they were married on Okinawa in 1957. They often spoke of how they were married three times: once by the base commander, once by the mayor of Naha, and once by a Shinto priest at the North end of the island. Jack, Dora and family lived in Lawrence MA, Cambridge ID, Windham NH, and Reading PA. Dora recently moved to Boise ID.
To all who knew her, Dora was an unflappable optimist. She always told you what was on her mind, was very capable, and she could do almost anything she decided to do. She played piano, sang, was an outstanding cook, and enjoyed crafts and gardening. She loved to play cards with her friends. People went to her for advice on everything from wallpapering to how to care for a sick dog. More than anything, Dora was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ask for, and she was generous to a fault with her love and support. Everyone was welcome in her home and she loved to entertain. The last years of her life were extremely challenging, but she never complained about her illness and always had a smile for you. She took life one day at a time and strongly believed that the Lord would always provide.
She is survived by her son Rick Rothwell (Penny) of Boise ID, son John Rothwell and Pattie Gowans, son James Rothwell and Lynne O’Reilly, son William Rothwell (Shelee), all of Reading PA, her brother Raymond Hathhorn (Bessie) of Salmon ID, and step brother Edward Widner (Katherine) of Middleton ID. She was grandmother to nine and great grandmother to eight beautiful children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jack Rothwell, her mother Mae Widner, her step-father Edward Widner, and her father Curtis Bain.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 3rd at 11:00 AM at the Bridge Baptist Church 902 Philadelphia Ave, Shillington, PA 19607, Deacon Kathie Bowers presiding. Dora was a long time and active member of the Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Bridge Baptist Church would be most welcome.
