Sharon Schmidt

Sharon L. Schmidt, 72, of Exeter Township, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. She was the widow of Karl F. Schmidt, who passed away April 9, 2016. Born in Pottstown, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Laury and Mary (Krantz) Laury-Hallman. Sharon was a graduate of Pottstown High School in 1961 and West Chester University with a teaching degree in music. She was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church-Wyomissing, where she was involved with the Children's Choir as well as with Emmanuel Lutheran in Naples, Florida, where she was an associate member. Sharon taught for 31 years as a classroom music teacher and directed the band program and was involved in choir programs as a participant and director for the Exeter School District. She helped to initiate the Artist in Residence Program in Exeter Township School District. After retiring, she and her husband directed the Hand Bell Choir at Exeter High School. Sharon is survived by one sister, Sheila L. wife of M. Ray Benton of San Diego, CA; one niece, Megan Benton of Houston, TX and one nephew, Eric Benton husband of Jeanette of San Diego and her great niece and nephew, Zackary and Evelyn. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd., Wyomissing, PA 19610.
