Joan Serafin

Joan D. Serafin, 82, of Lower Alsace Township, passed away,Tuesday, April 5th, 2016 in her residence. She was the widow of Anthony B. Serafin who passed away June 24, 2001. Born in Nanticoke, PA she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Salkowski) Mayewski. Joan was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and was a member of St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C. She was a nurses aide for the Hawthorne Home then for St. Michael's Convent for many years until her retirement. Joan is survived by: Two Sons: Raymond R. Serafin husband of Beth of St. Lawrence and Anthony J. Serafin husband of Barbara of Shoemakersville; One Daughter: Maria A. McLeroy of Lower Alsace Township; Nine Grandchildren: Joshua Blakeney, Chad Blakeney, Christian Serafin, Justin Cronan, Michael Serafin, Megan Serafin, Kyle McLeroy, Cameron McLeroy and Corey McLeroy and Four Great-Grandchildren and One Brother: Eugene Mayewski husband of Barbara of Nanticoke. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Geraldine Andrukiewicz and her brother, Raymond Mayewski. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 8th, 2016 from 9:00 am 11:00 am with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 am in St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C., 4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading, PA 19606. Interment inGethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C. Memorial Fund, 2427 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, PA 19606.
