Robert I. Shaffer, 92, of Exeter Township, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 in the Mifflin Center. He was the widower of Joetta M. (Mauldin) Shaffer who passed away February 22, 2001. He was the companion of Grace Bush. Robert was a son of the late Jacob B. and Alice B. (Bilger) Shaffer. Robert was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene. Robert is survived by two daughters: Sandra wife of Kenneth Silagy and Carol wife of George Spanier both of Reading, PA. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Kelly, Crystal, Kristy, Jason and Nicole and Four Great-Grandchildren: Haley, Mackenzie, Laurel and Adeline. He was pre-deceased by a brother Walter and his sisters Thelma, Ruth and Marjorie. Robert graduated from North Coventry Twp. High School in 1939, and then attended Eastern Nazarene College until the outbreak of World War II. He served as a Tech. Sgt. In the Signal Corps with the Third Army in France and Germany until the war ended. He was awarded the French Croix de Guerre citation with medal for outstanding service. After his Army discharge, Robert was employed by Hub Tool Mfg. and Machine Co. for 30 years and then Specialty Design and Mfg. Co. for 14 years.
