Sara E. (Stewart) Shipe, age 92, formerly of Reading, PA, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 in Bayside, Wisconsin at the Elizabeth’s Residence. Sally was born on October 3, 1921 in Chester, Pennsylvania. Sally graduated from Kutztown University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Sally proceeded to earn her Master’s Degree from Temple University and then continued her education and acquired her Principal’s Certification. Sally loved teaching 3rd grade at TysonSchoener Elementary School and Northwest Elementary School in Reading, PA. Her first Principal assignment was at Glenside Elementary School. Sally then transferred to become the Principal of her beloved Tyson Schoener Elementary School. She was so loved by her teachers and students. Sally retired from the Reading School District in 1994 at age 72. Once retired, Sally enjoyed collecting antiques and opened an antique store outside of Reading. Throughout Sally’s adulthood, she was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Golden Rule Chapter #390, where she served as Worthy Matron and organist for many years. At age 81, Sally moved to Grafton, Wisconsin to be with her daughter Susan. She had a full and exciting life throughout her golden years. At age 85 years old, Sally started taking ballroom dancing lessons at Fred Astaire, Mequon, Wisconsin. Shortly thereafter, Sally started to compete in dance competitions up until the age of 89, winning many 1st places.
Sally is survived by her sons, Wayne M. Shipe, Jr. and wife, Lois Shipe of Carmel, IN and Jeffrey B. Shipe, Sr. of Jamison, PA; daughters; Susan J. (Shipe) Rugg of Mequon, WI, and Cynthia A. (Shipe) Komperda of Longmont, CO; 11grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne M. Shipe, Sr.; her parents, Carrie Juniata and William Stewart; and her brother, Harold Stewart.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Lutz Funeral Home, 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 A.M with a service beginning at 11:00 A.M. Sally will be laid to rest at Lauredale Cemetery, 4631 Pottsville Pike, in Reading, PA. In lieu of flowers, it is Sally’s wish that contributions be made to Tyson Schoener Elementary School, in care of Mr. Sal Sepulveda, Principal, Tyson Schoener Elementary School, 315 S. 5th Street.
