Shirley June (Mengel) Weller, 93, of Bern Township, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Berks Heim. She was the wife of the late Fred James Weller. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Joseph and Helen Isabella (Weaver) Mengel. A lifelong resident of Reading, Shirley grew up on Cherry Street, and later lived on South 17 1/2 Street for 60 years. She attended Reading Senior High School, and went on to work as an Examiner in the Wyomissing Knitting Mills. She also worked in the Reading School District for many years as a lunch-aid, and then in the household department at Yorgey's/National Cleaners into her early 80's. Shirley was the #1 Philadelphia Phillies fan, loved playing BINGO, and watching the Game Show Network. She also loved planting flowers, shopping, and bowling with her "favorite" niece, Bev Liszcz.
Shirley is survived by her children, Steven James Weller Sr. husband of Eileen, Rickey Steven Weller, husband of Karen, and Lynn Ann DeAcosta, wife of Jeffrey. She is also survived by her grandchildren Steven J. Weller Jr., Heidi L. Weller, Crystal A. Adams-Sleboda, Shawn M. Weller, Jill D. Smith, Michael C. Weller, Lauren E. Wilkinson, Benjamin R. DeAcosta, and Erica L. Boady, as well as her great-grandchildren, Hanna Weller, Noah Weller, Carter Adams, Branson Adams, Chase Adams, Evan Lively, Milo Lively, Piper Weller, Jayce DeAcosta, Reese DeAcosta, Bella DeAcosta, and Elliott Wilkinson. Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter Terry Lynn Boady, her brothers Donald Irvin Mengel and Forrest Arthur Mengel, and her sister Bertha "Sis" M. Mengel.
Shirley's family asks that you please wear your favorite Phillies attire to her viewing. If you don't have something Phillies related, the colors red or blue will suffice.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606.
