Kay William Shober, 89, formerly of Reading, passed away Saturday September 9, 2017, in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the husband of Charmaine (Reich) Shober. Born in Denver, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Howard and Sallie (Brossman) Shober. Kay was a Mason of the 26th Order, an entertainer with the United Service Organization, (USO) and was a merchandiser for J.C. Riley in Philadelphia for many years until retiring. He was also a long-standing member and served on the board at Grace Lutheran Church in Reading. Kay is survived by one son David K. Smither, husband of Polly of Reading and four step-sons, Claude Lantz husband of Dottie of Delaware, Rodney Lantz husband of Cathy of Pottstown, James Lantz husband of Nikki of Newmanstown and William Lantz husband of Donna of Wyomissing Hills. Kay also is survived by three step-daughters, Marinne wife of Frank Jones of Georgia, Ellen Fritz wife of James Fritz of Auburn and Levana wife of Neal Thomason of Lebanon. He was predeceased by one step-daughter Denise wife of William Stahlberg of Reading. Kay is also survived by 33 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Thursday October 12, 2017, at 10:30 am in Phoebe Berks Chapel, 9 Reading Drive, Wernersville. Interment to follow at Muddy Creek Cemetery.
