Charles J. Siegfried, 91, of Reading, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 in Wyomissing Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Mabel I. (Heberling) Siegfried who passed away September 28, 2017. Born in Reading, Pa, he was the son of the late Paul J. Siegfried and Edith S. (Spangenberg) Siegfried. Charles was a graduate of Central Catholic High School class of 1944. Charles was a member of United States Army retiring after twenty years. He was the recipient of the following medals: Bronze Star, Purple Heart, European, African, Mid East Campaign with two battle stars. World War II Victory, Good Conduct with six loops, Army of Occupation with Germany Clasp, Armed Forces Expeditionary , National Defense Service and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was a U.S. Postal Mail Handler and worked for the Social Security Board in Baltimore. He was a photographer, and a photo lab technician, and a photo repair specialist at the Fort Monmouth Motion Picture School. He was a member of the American Legion Pulaski Post #38 and a member of the VFW. He was a life member of the Berks County Fireman's Association. He was also a member of the Union Fire Co. as a active volunteer and as a Jeep driver. He was also a member of the train collectors association. He was an avid hiker and bicyclist. Charles is survived by four daughters Maria T. Kantner, Karen A. Sciole, Monica C. Siegfried and Helena A. Einsel; three grandsons: Kenneth and Stephen Kantner and Eric Sciole; three great grand daughters: Julianna, Gabriella and Kaia Kantner. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am in Lutz Funeral Home 2100 Perkiomen Avenue Reading, PA 19606 Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
