R. Marie Smith (Hartman)

R. Marie Smith, 92, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018, in her home. Born in Boyertown, PA , she was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Florence (Schlegel) Hartman. Marie, as she was known by her friends and relatives, was preceded in death by Alton M. Smith in 2014, with whom she celebrated 28 years of a wonderful and loving marriage. She was also preceded in death by her first husband Robert F. Peters Sr., sister Isabel C. Tompkins, and a brother Carl S. Hartman. Marie graduated from Boyertown High School in 1944 and attended McCann School of Business. She was a member of the Eastern Star organization and had a love for oil paintings. Marie is survived by three children: Patricia (Peters), Steever wife of Richard of Harrisburg, Robert F. Jr., husband of Cathleen of Exeter, and James husband of Karen of Pittsburgh. She was blessed with 9 grandchildren, Kimberly Fernsler, Kathleen Nichols, Kristine Aldridge, Richard Steever, Nicole Leas, Joshua Peters, Sara Rooney, Amanda Johnson, and Rebecca Peters. There are also 13 great-grandchildren. Extended family includes 3 step-children, David, Daniel and Steven Smith and many step-grandchildren. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading.
