Gerard J. Sullivan, 87, of Reiffton, born on April 12, 1930, passed away Wednesday January 24, 2018, at the Berkshire Center in Reading. He was the husband of Marie (Dolan) Sullivan. Born in New York City, Mr. Sullivan was the son of the late William J. and Anita (Soler) Sullivan.
He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, Bronx NYC in 1947. After receiving his bachelor's degree he began graduate studies at Hunter College in NYC. There he met his wife Marie. They recently celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Gerry retired from CNA Insurance in Reading, after 33 years of employment as a senior claims adjuster. He had been an active member of St. Catharine of Siena Church as an Eucharistic Minister and RCIA instructor. He was also an active committee member for many years with Boy Scout Troop 358. He enjoyed time with his family, especially at the beach.
In addition to his wife Marie, he is survived by his children: Gerard of Wyomissing, husband of Jean Hamilton; Claire of Reading, wife of David Blaise; John of Reiffton; Paul of Londonderry NH, husband of Nancy Lord; Mary of Oley, wife of Patrick Davis; Peter of West Lawn, husband of Elaine Lesagonicz; and Elizabeth of Sewell NJ, wife of John Iannelli. He has 13 grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Blaise; Rachel (Davis) Johnson; Jessica and Mary Catharine Davis; Neil, Kevin, Andrea, Timothy and Terrence Sullivan; and John, James, and Olivia Iannelli. He is also survived by his sister Anne Marie Divadi of Spring Lake, NJ; and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his twin brother William, formerly of Richmond, VA. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday January 30, 2018 from 6-8pm in the Lutz Funeral Home, 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading and Wednesday morning from 9-10am in St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C., 4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading Pa, 19606. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am in the Exeter Church.
