Stanley J. "Skip" Szurgot

Stanley J. “Skip” Szurgot, 75, formerly of Mount Penn and most currently of Exeter Township, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015 in the Berkshire Center. He was the husband of Christine V. (Gdowik) Szurgot. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Stanley J. and Mary C. (Reuth) Szurgot. He attended Reading Catholic High School and was a member of St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C. Skip was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a life member of both the Basketball Old Timers and Neversink Rod and Gun Club, a volunteer fireman for Mt. Penn Fire Company, a PIAA Basketball Referee for nine years and a CYO Basketball Coach for St. Catherine’s for 13 years and an auxiliary member of the F.O.P. Skip was employed by Firestone in Pottstown for 20+ years and was then a Pennsylvania State Constable for the Boro of Mount Penn and he retired from Cambridge-Lee as a Safety Administrator. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Donna M. Duffy of Hamburg, Stephen M. Szurgot husband of Marie of Mt. Penn, Lynn M. wife of Patrick Rothermel of Wyomissing and Robert A. Szurgot husband of Tricia of Wyomissing; Grandchildren: Nicholas, Ashley and Zachary Duffy, Jessica and Joshua Szurgot, Olivia and Ian Rothermel and Jack Szurgot. He was pre-deceased by his brother Ronald Szurgot. Visitation with the family will be held from 9:00-10:00 A.M. on Monday, February 16, 2015 in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Mt. Penn followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. in St. Catharine of Siena Chapel 2427 Perkiomen Ave. Mt. Penn. Interment in Gethsemane Cemetery.
