Theresa M. (Desiderio) Essig, 85, of Shillington, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, at The Heritage of Green Hills, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Joseph Essig.
Born in Tamaqua, PA, Theresa was the daughter of the late Michael and Dorothy (Verna) Desiderio. She graduated from Marion High School and was a faithful member of St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.
Though formally known as Theresa, she was affectionately called Terri, Mom, Nana, and Butch-a nickname lovingly given to her by her late brother, Frank. Terri will be remembered for her unwavering Catholic faith, deep pride in her Italian heritage, impeccable sense of style, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Summers were especially meaningful to Terri and her husband Joe, as they welcomed family and friends to their beloved Delaware Shore House on Terrapin Drive. With warm hospitality, delicious meals, and lively conversation, Terri created a welcome respite for all. Many cherished memories were made on the covered front porch overlooking Indian River Bay-memories that will live on forever in those who shared them.
In addition to her husband, Joseph, Theresa is survived by her children: Vince Essig, husband of Brenda, of Oley; Steve Essig, husband of Teri, of Bernville; Mike Essig, husband of Mary, of Kentucky; and Sandee Coughenour, wife of Bill, of Alabama. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Zach, Teaya, Nate, Amelia, Jeremiah, Katie, James, Olivia, Garritt, and Tessa, as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Francis J. Desiderio.
