Anthony G (Tony) Waldman, 75, peacefully ended his suffering at his home, with his family by his side, on March 19, 2015, and went to be with Christ and his beloved Wife.
Born in Reading on September 21, 1939, the son of the late George A. and Martha A. (Brown) Waldman
Tony entered the Sacred Heart Mission Seminary, Geneva, IL. briefly in his early high school years to study for the priesthood, but the pull of family was stronger, and he returned to Reading to finish high school and live a more traditional life.
Tony was a 1959 graduate of Central Catholic High School, where he was relentlessly chased by the woman who would become the love of his life. He didn’t have a chance!
Tony served his Country in the United States Army, A veteran of Korea 1963-65 (51st Signal Battalion), and then in the US Army Reserves till 1969 (310th Transportation Co).
He was originally employed by the former Textile Machine Works but felt the calling of the family electrical trade so he entered the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #743 apprenticeship program to follow in the footsteps of his Father and Brothers to become an electrician.
After becoming a Journeyman Electrician, he worked for Buck Electric until 1975. It was in 1975 that he became one of the founding “Brothers” of Waldman Brothers Electric, Inc,; where he eventually became a Master Electrician, President and CEO. He retired in 2006 after 31 years of being in the business. During that time, he passed the family trade onto his own 3 children, all of whom are electricians.
He also was a very active member of the Mt Penn Fire Company for the past 25 years, currently serving as Fire Police Captain and Treasurer.
Tony was a member of the Reading Fire Department, Washington Fire Co. #2
He was an Assistant Scoutmaster and Cub Scout Leader for Troop/Pack 320. St Mary’s RC Church
He was past president of the Holy Name Society of St Mary’s RC Church, The Electrical Association of Reading and Berks County as well as The Mountain Spring Association.
He was a member of St Catharine of Siena Parish, Mt Penn PA
Tony was Pre-Deceased by Patricia S. (Chelstowski), his wife of 51 years, who he missed terribly, a son Thomas J., who died at birth August 14, 1962, and a Brother, Richard J
Tony is survived by his 2 sons and 1 Daughter, Timothy F. Husband of Cynthia A. Mitchell, Mt. Penn, and Steven G. Husband of Josephine (Oliver) Collegeville, Angela M. Wife of Gregory Beam (West Reading). and 3 Wonderful Granddaughters, Miranda and Stephanie Waldman, and Ana Beam. 1 Sister and 2 Brothers, Loretta M. (Waldman) Sausen, James C. Temple and Carl A. Hamburg.
Anthony loved his family and loved having his whole family together for holidays and special occasions. His family was so very important to him, and he was an excellent cook, and family dinner time was always a priority for him.
He loved making Breakfast for the whole family and friends every Christmas and Easter, and the family summertime holiday picnics in his backyard were always one of his joys.
Visitation with the family will be held from 7:00-9:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 22, 2015 and again from 9:00-10:00 A.M. on Monday, March 23, 2015 in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Mt. Penn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Monday in St. Catharine of Siena Chapel 2427 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606. Entombment in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum.
