Rudy Walenta, 87, of Wyomissing, died May 6, 2015 at The Highlands of Wyomissing with family at his side. Born in Secaucus, NJ, he was the son of the late Joseph Walenta and Katie (Werner) Walenta-Kavounas. He was the loving husband of Patricia (Kalbach) Walenta. Rudy was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army and a graduate of Albright College. He was a founding partner of Progress Electric, Wyomissing, PA and ended his career as Senior Vice President of Sales, Fromm Electric Supply Corp., Reading, PA. He was a charter member of the Exeter Lions Club, having served as president and receiving the distinguished Melvin Jones Award. He was also a member of St. John’s Lodge #435 F&AM, Wyomissing. Rudy was a former board member of the Children’s Home of Reading, The Mid-Atlantic Air Museum and Albert Boscov’s Our City Reading. He earned a private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying with friends and family. Rudy also loved summers boating out of North East, MD. After his retirement, he and Patty enjoyed many years of traveling. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Cheryl Walenta, wife of Gary Holzman, Glenmoore, PA, and Cynthia Walenta, wife of Warren Gluck, Tucson, AZ and a son Steven Walenta, husband of Deborah Gussman, Haddonfield, NJ. Two Step-Children: Mark Werner, Sinking Spring, PA and Krista Werner Stafford, West Reading, PA; Eleven grandchildren: Jamie, Jennifer, Michael, Jacob H., Caitlin, Max, Jeffrey, Luke, Shawn, Ethan and Jacob W; Six Great-Grandchildren: Sophie, Sam, Evan, Dylan, Conner and Caleb and Three Brothers: Alexander Kavounas, Lillian, AL, Nicholas Kavounas, Allentown, PA and Thomas Kavounas, Charlottesville, VA. A Memorial Service honoring Rudy’s life will be held at the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Mt. Penn on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 1:00 P.M.
