Ret. Det. Sgt. Walter W. Godshall Jr.

Walter W. Godshall Jr., 77, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023 in Reading Hospital Medical Center. He was the husband of Carol J. (Rau) Godshall, with whom he celebrated 29 years of marriage. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Walter W. Godshall Sr., and Ruth E. (Weider) Schaeffer. Walter attended Reading High School and Pennsylvania State Police Academy. He was a Det. Sgt. for Exeter Township Police Department for 31 years, retiring in 2010. Walter was a member of St. John's Lodge #435 Free and Accepted Masons, and F.O.P. Berks Lodge #71.

In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by his children; Michael J. Godshall, husband of Michelle, Stacey M. Border, wife of Bradley, Glenn J. Oesterling, husband of Nicole, and Jill M. Imboden, wife of Joshua. He is also survived by six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, as well as his siblings; Callie DiBlasi, Sue Bashore, Mark Shaeffer, and Dawn Bortman. Walter was predeceased by his sister Arlene Snyder, and brother Darrell Schaeffer.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 beginning at 11:00 am in Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W Neversink Road, Reading, PA 19606. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
