John D. Wendell

John D. Wendell, 80, of Mount Penn, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 in the Berkshire Center. He was the widower of Marie (Purcell) Wendell. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late George C. and Margaret (Jacobs) Wendell. John was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and received his bachelors degree from Kutztown University. He also attended Penn State University and received his Master's Degree from Temple University. John served with the United States Army Reserves. He was a History and English teacher at Boyertown East Junior High School for over 30 years until his retirement. John is survived by one son Michael J. husband of Tammy L. of Ambler, and two grandchildren Bryan, and Allison. He is also survived by two sisters Patricia Wendell and Janet (Wendell) Eckroat. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. with services beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606.
