David J. Wentling Jr.

David J. Wentling, Jr., 80, of Reiffton, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 in the Southeastern Veteran’s Center. He was the husband of Kathleen H. (Hubbard) Wentling. Born in Reading on September 7, 1934 he was the son of David J., Sr. and Margaret (Flanagan) Wentling. David was a 1952 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a 1956 graduate of University of Notre Dame and also an Air Force Veteran. Mr. Wentling was vice president of 7-Up Bottling Company of Reading, Lancaster and Pottsville and Bethlehem. When he went out on his own, he orchestrated the startup of several business ventures in Reading. After his retirement, he was lastly affiliated with Blue Falls Grove in Leesport. David owned and managed several real estate ventures in Reading and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He enjoyed golf and spent many winters in Florida and summers in Delaware boating, crabbing and on the links. David was full of life and was always very witty and quick to tell a joke. He was active within the Reading Lions Club and was instrumental in the development of Crestwood Swimming Pool, Exeter Little League and Keystone Blood Bank. Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son Thomas J. husband of Marynell Wentling of Bartlett, IL, a son Timothy E. husband of Melissa of Sinking Spring, PA, and a daughter Maryellen wife of Thomas Fay of Charlotte, NC; Son-In-Law Michael Danowski husband of the late Kathleen M. (Wentling), Theresa Wentling wife of the late David J. Wentling, III, eight Grandchildren: Elizabeth Haas, TJ, Charlie and NellAnn Wentling, Ryan and Patrick Fay and David, IV and Nicholas Wentling. David is also survived by two brothers: Donald and Joseph both of Reading, one sister Dolores Wentling of Greensburg, PA; 12 nieces and nephews; Sisters-In-Law: Mary Jean Hallum, Sarah Hatten and Margaret Flynn; Brother-In-Law: Edward Hubbard and 16 nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by one brother, Walter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Catharine of Siena Chapel 2427 Perkiomen Ave. Mt. Penn on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Berks Catholic High School 955 E. Wyomissing Blvd. Reading, PA 19611 or St. Catharine of Siena School 2330 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606.
