Horst J. Witthaut, 80, of Exeter Township, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in St. Joseph Medical Center. He was the husband of Renate (Carl) Witthaut. He was born on July 16, 1934 in Warstein, Germany, a son of the late Clemens and Wilhelmine (Brune) Witthaut. He received his MBA in economics from the University of Cologne. He immigrated to the United States in 1960. Early in his career he was a fashion buyer and merchandiser at May Department Stores. He came to Reading in 1972 as a merchandise manager of Whitner’s Department Store. Later he owned and operated the Marilyn Custom Shop with his wife Renee in Reading and Allentown. He enjoyed symphonic music, the opera and classic literature. He worked and loved his gentleman’s farmstead in Exeter. He was also a member of St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church. In addition to his wife, Horst is survived by his children Stephanie wife of Pier D’Aprile of Massachusetts, Christopher Witthaut husband of Sheila of Exeter Twp., Susanna “Nan” wife of Wayne Beaver of Exeter Township and Markus Witthaut husband of Kathleen of Conneticut and seven grandchildren: Gianna, Alison, Margaux, Christopher, Jennifer, Amanda and Torsten. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in St. Catharine of Siena Chapel 2427 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606.
