David Franklin Woll

David Franklin Woll, age 79, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014. David was born on February 23, 1935 in West Reading, the son of the late Charles H. Woll and Marelle(Moser) Woll. He was the husband of Winifred C. (Foster) Woll for 50 years.

In 1958, Dave served for six months in the U. S. Army at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Following that time, he served his obligation as an Army reservist in Reading, Pennsylvania until his honorable discharge in 1964.

David, a master plumber, became the owner of C. H. Woll & Son Plumbing and Heating in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania (1959-2001). He also served as the plumbing inspector for Wyomissing, Cumru Township, and the Township of Spring and was the Vice President of the Berks County Plumbing Inspectors Association.

Starting in 1956, Dave started as a volunteer with the Wyomissing Fire Company. He served Wyomissing Fire Department as Captain of the Fire Police Unit, and also served for many years in the Fire Police units of the West Lawn Fire Co. and Township of Spring Fire Departments. Upon his retirement in 2004, Wyomissing Fire Department awarded himthe rank of Fire Police Captain Emeritus in honor of his 48 years of dedicated service to the Borough.

For many years Dave served the Boy Scouts of America as the cub master to Pack #473 and on the troop committee for Troop #473, both located in West Lawn, Pennsylvania.

As a member of Schwarzwald UCC Church, Dave served on the property committee and enjoyed the company of the people at that church.

Throughout his life, Dave enjoyed astronomy. He was a lecturer for the planetarium at the North Museum of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He also enjoyed viewing the stars through his own telescope. Dave also loved photography, boating, and camping. Later in life, Dave became an avid player of the domino game, “Chickenfoot”.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by three sons: Timothy C. Woll, Spring Township; William D. Woll, husband of Julie (Oswald) Woll, Spring Township; and Douglas S. Woll, husband of Ruthann (Gundersen) Woll, Bernville. Dave is also survived by four grandchildren: Samuel, Jayden, Bella, and Brady Woll.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on Friday, April 25 at 5 p.m. at Schwarzwald UCC Church, 75 Church Lane Road, Exeter Township, Pennsylvania. A reception will be held following the service for funeral guests. Burial will be private at the discretion of the family.
