About Us

Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. began serving the community in 1884 in what was then known as Esterly, PA. Esterly is now known as St. Lawrence. The founder, John F. Lutz, a cabinet maker by trade, was also an experienced casket maker who made an easy transition into the funeral industry.

Initially, Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. operated at the site of the John F. Lutz Furniture Store in Esterly, where John F. sold his handmade wood furniture. The furniture store continued operation in its original location until the mid-sixties. J. Elmer Lutz, Sr., John F.’s son, built the current facility in the borough of Mount Penn in 1931. It was designed exclusively as a funeral home.

The business is still family owned and operated. The funeral home eventually passed to the third generation J. Elmer “Buddy” Lutz, Jr., then to the fourth generation John C. Lutz, and now to his son, the current owner and operator John C. Lutz II, who is the fifth generation.
